The Bishops Palace, Witney

Join Witney & District Museum at Bishops Palace to explore the history of Witney’s Bishop’s Palace, once the residence of the powerful Bishops of Winchester and a key landmark in the town for centuries.

Drop into the Bishops Palace to chat to members of our team and uncover the story of the palace, its role in medieval Witney, and the lasting influence the bishops had on the town’s development. You’ll discover surviving traces of the site, hear stories of the people who lived and worked there, and learn how the palace shaped the Witney we know today.

Whether you’re a local resident, history enthusiast or first-time visitor, this Heritage Open Days event offers a fascinating opportunity to explore one of Witney’s most significant historic sites and see familiar places in a new light.

This event is free, please drop in at any time to explore the education centre, it’s displays and the site.
