Osney Lock Hydro
Osney Lock, East Street, Osney Island, Oxford, Oxfordshire, OX2 0AX
Osney Lock Hydro is the first community-owned hydro to be built and operating on the Thames. Come along to see the hydro and fish pass on site, between them making this section of the river freely passable to fish for the first time in 200 years. The site also includes a mosaic ‘human sun dial’ featuring local flora and fauna. Please note we are rarely generating in September as river flows are usually too low at this time of year.
As part of your visit you can also follow a self-guided tour around Osney Island, which explains the hydro’s role as part of Osney Supercharge. This was an innovation trial to better understand how energy generators such as the hydro can collaborate with households and businesses all connected to the local energy network to help accelerate the transition to net-zero. https://www.lowcarbonhub.org/interactivemaps/osney-island-grid-edge-tour/
