'Out of the Shadows'

At the heart of the 'Out of the Shadows' exhibition is a large scale textile installation. This piece has been meticulously hand stitched by 45 local women to honour and celebrated 25 female artists who have historically been overlooked, omitted from the history books and from the public consciousness.

This is a highly interactive, family friendly exhibition displaying the large stitched piece. Also, there will be exhibits showcasing four of these extraordinary women: Alice Guy Blache (Film Maker), Hannah Hoch (Dada Artist), Ithell Colquhoun (Surrealist Painter) and Camille Claudel (Sculptor). By each of the four artists we will offer interactive activities for 4yrs+ and adults, such as: stitching your own words, clay modelling, sand activity, photomontage, draw a portrait and Dada poetry.

In March 2027 for International Women's Day, the textile installation will be on show again in Winchester, shining a light on the other artists featured in the piece.
