Pallant House Tour
St. Faiths Church House, The Pallant, Havant, Hampshire, PO9 1BE
A large house and many outbuildings were constructed mostly in the 18th Century based on an existing building most likely to date from the 17th century and updated in the 19th Century
Pallant House, No. 14 The Pallant, was purchased by the Parochial Church Council in 1919 for a Men’s Club. Known as ‘Church House’ for some years, it has recently reverted to its older name, to emphasise that it is a building for the whole community to use.
St. Faith’s Church House had a day nursery on the ground floor from 1970 until 2011. The first floor houses the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help Havant Division. The Parish Office was on the first floor but moved to 2 North Street in 2012.
The first recorded occupants of Pallant House were Stevens and Longcroft Solicitors in 1828. The solicitors moved into West Street and by 1841 the occupant was Christopher Stevens who died in 1843. In 1847 a Miss Charlotte Mountain lived there until her death in 1860. By 1891 the occupants were the Roffey family – Sir James Roffey died in 1912 and Lady Emma Roffey died in 1914.
This complex building houses a variety of rooms and a large hall, all with their own unique character and original features. Why not take the opportunity to come and explore one of the most interesting buildings in the town
