A guided walking tour and interpretation of Parkfields Park, Fearnhead - originally constructed as a "Prehistoric Theme Park". Also a chance to share your memories, photos and insights.

Join prehistory lover, tour guide and author, Tim Prevett to contemplate this marvellous space in Warrington - and share your memories and photos of this 42 year old modern megalithic complex, which is also an everyday local park.

Parkfields Park consists of a stone circle, henge, outlying stones, and a long barrow. Other features once included a giant hand figure and turf labyrinth. Originally themed very much with "Earth Mysteries" in mind, the original brochure describes ley lines, and an exploration of possible solar alignments. A designated May Pole dancing area was part of the layout, and the socket is still there.

Set out in 1984 by Catterall Landscaping for the then Warrington and Runcorn New Town Development Corporation, it is one of a few local modern megalithic constructions. The Birchwood Monolith and others will also be discussed.

Did you dance around a May Pole in the park in the 80s? Were you a curious local resident wondering what it was going up in the new park? Were you involved in the planning and development in the Corporation, or the company delivering the construction? If you have photos you would like to share, please bring them along.

Maybe you are a local resident who is just curious? This tour very much has engaging local residents at its heart and generating conversation, but if you just like modern megalithic sites and urban sacred spaces, you too will also find it an absolutely fascinating place.
