Plainchant workshop

Plainchant workshop at St Mary Crowned in Glossop, Saturday 12th September, 1400 to 1545, free event, donations welcome. Plainchant, or plainsong, is an ancient and beautiful form of singing. In this practical workshop, we will explore how it differs from modern singing styles and discover the basic rubrics for singing chant. We will also look at some of the ways in which we use plainchant in our churches here in Glossop. Please bring a pen or a pencil. And you may want to bring some water to drink – there will be plenty of opportunities to sing! Find details and book a place below.

One of the things that we will be singing at the workshop we will also be using at the Saturday evening celebration of the Vigil Mass at All Saints church at 6pm. It will be the Communion Processional Song.

You would be more than welcome to come to that Mass and join us in singing it.

Andrew will be heading there straight after the workshop and we will have a run through at ASC about 5:30pm.

The church is also open from 1400 to 1600 for heritage visitors who do not want to join in the workshop.

Directions:

There is limited parking around the church as the roads are narrow and residential. There are carparks in the town, and some on street parking a short walk away. The building is accessible for wheelchairs.
