A guided walk around Loughborough's Victorian enclosed park, created to provide factory workers and others with fresh air, and an opportunity to exercise.

Set out in the late 1890s, and officially opened in 1899 in celebration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, Queen's Park, in the heart of the market and university town of Loughborough, is a fine example of a Victorian park, created to give the local workers somewhere to walk, to exercise, and to breathe in cleaner air. On this circular walk around the park, your tour guide will highlight the architecture of the park's outstanding buildings; consider the history of some of the park's structures, and wonder at the flora and fauna contained within the park.

After the morning walk, or before the afternoon walk, bring a picnic, sit on a bench, and listen to the Carillon recital in Queen's Park, which begins at 1pm.

Please note that walks take place whatever the weather, so please dress appropriately. Note also that there are no trained first aiders available on this walk.

There are no planned refreshment stops, but the park houses a cafe, or there are plenty of choices in the town centre a short walk away.

The closest car park is Granby Street, but there are other car parks available.

Meet on the steps of the Charnwood Museum, in the park. Duration: 45-60 minutes.

This event is part of Loughborough Heritage Weekend, where over a dozen local sites are opening their doors, with tours, activities, exhibitions and much more!
