R A Gardner Exhibition
Red Hall, South Street, Bourne, Lincolnshire, PE10 9LY
R A Gardner, 1850-1926, worked as a banker but also held many other positions in the town of Bourne: magistrate, trustee for Bourne United Charities, President of the Bourne Institute, President of the WW1 Volunteer Training Corps, the list goes on. He was also an artist and exhibited at three Summer Exhibitions at the Royal Academy. His life and work have been researched by volunteers of the Town Hall Histories project.
The suitably heritage setting of the Red Hall, Bourne's oldest building and home to 12 Gardner paintings, will host the exhibition. It is also here that Gardner's niece, Ernestine Dunbar, spent some of the inheritance from her 'beloved' uncle on renovating the Dunbar room, now named after her.
