Brand new show retells the story of how the railway came to being. Along the way we meet famous historic people, relive event milestones and learn the ups and downs from the past two centuries of our railway's history. Created by Gare Du Nord Theatre

Complete with original new music, this show will take you back to the golden age of rail. Come and find out how it all started, what the Bronte's had to do with trains and what was the British Rail Flying Saucer?

2025 sees the 200th anniversary of the world's first passenger steam railway. The UK (& the rest of the globe) is celebrating this milestone. Gare Du Nord Theatre, along with Avanti West Coast have put together a 75min show detailing the events from the past 200 years in a comical, interesting and educational retelling. The show features famous historic people, relives event milestones and features the ups and downs of the railway from the past two centuries. It features original new music and songs especially written for the show.

This performance is suitable for families with children over 7 year's old.

Directions:
Make your way to Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop. If approaching from Deansgate or Whitworth Street West, cross all the tram lines and turn left down the access road. There is a large sign on the wall showing the way. Look for our signs on the raised pavement. Walk across the car park at the end and there is a row of planters showing the entrance to Castlefield Viaduct. Alternatively, if approaching from the Liverpool Road direction, climb the staircase just off Duke Street to arrive at the entrance. There is no dedicated parking at Castlefield Viaduct though there are plenty of city centre car parks. If you can, we recommend using public transport. Castlefield Viaduct is very near Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink station or Deansgate mainline rail station.

Accessibility details

Castlefield Viaduct is accessible by lift from the Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink stop and there is ramp access all the way through to the event space. There is a hearing loop installed on site.
