Rediscover the Haymarket

S1 Artspace, 2 Haymarket and 5-7 Commercial Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S1 2AT

  • 21 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Step inside the former Yorkshire Bank Haymarket after a decade of closure. Now home to S1 Artspace, this 1871 Grade II listed building is being restored into a fully accessible venue for the visual arts in Sheffield’s historic Castlegate area.

Following S1 Artspace’s move to the city centre last year, join us between the 19–20 September to celebrate Heritage Open Days and the 2025 Castlegate Festival.

Built in 1871, this Grade II listed landmark stands at the gateway to Sheffield’s historic Castlegate. Originally built to serve as Sheffield’s first General Post Office, it later became the Sheffield Stock Exchange and, more recently, the Yorkshire Bank. Today, it is S1 Artspace’s new home.

Over the next two years, the building will gradually be refurbished and reopened to the public and spaces will become occupied as we complete improvements to create a fully accessible, fit-for-purpose arts venue.

Pop in for a first look inside between 11:30am - 2:30pm to its fascinating history.
