This exhibition presents a remarkable series of photographs by Stu Vincent, documenting the archaeological excavations at the Old Black Lion and St.Peters Church, as well as the meticulous restoration of the historic inn.

During Heritage Open Day 2026 the Old Black Lion welcomes you to an exhibition celebrating the work of local photographer Stu Vincent. Taken throughout the Churches Conservation Trust project Stu's photographs capture the discoveries made during the excavations and the painstaking conservation and restoration of the Old Black Lion's historic fabric.

This exhibition provides a unique visual record of archaeologists, craftspeople, conservation specialists, and volunteers working together to uncover and preserve centuries of history; celebrating not only the history revealed beneath the ground and within the buildings, but also the people whose dedication ensures that this shared heritage remains preserved for future generations.

Artefacts discovered during the excavations will be on display, with some included during handling sessions throughout the event.

Informal drop in tours and workshops will also be available.
