Rings End LNR And It’s Railway Past
Rings End Local Nature Reserve, Twenty Foot Road, Chain Bridge, March, Cambridgeshire, PE15 0BE
Rings End Local Nature Reserve is a Cambridgeshire County Council owned site that is described as a “post-industrial” nature reserve and we at Friends of Rings End Nature Reserve who help with running of this site would like people to have an opportunity to explore this. The track that had been handed to nature (after it was all finally dismantled in the early to mid 1980s) was a railway from 1867, when it was opened by Great Northern Railway. It became known as a Joint Line (as was joined by Great Eastern Railway – before the companies fell under British Railway from 1948) from Spalding to March and the trains ran until 27th November 1982, when the last train ever reached March Station at 19:01. We plan to encourage people to take a journey around the Reserve, and find all the specifically crafted signs to fill in an activity sheet and take notice of the railway artefacts that are still visible. People can also join us for refreshments and train themed cakes next the car park, admire our railway-themed gate and learn more about the railway heritage! We are a small dedicated group of volunteers that wish to reach out and promote our Reserve, so we felt this is a great way to reach out to the community.

A sheet to write down answers (from the signs you'll hopefully find) with clipboard and pens will be supplied. This sheet will have missing gaps in statements you'll need to fill in with the figures of dates, lengths and times you'll find on the signs.
