There will be tours on the hour all day. These will be guided by experienced volunteers who will take visitors to areas that cannot normally be seen whilst the cinema is operating and explain the history of the building as a Mechanics Institute.
This is our 31 st year as a volunteer cinema and that will be celebrated on the day. An exhibition will be available to view.
The Ritz cinema Thirsk was established in 1913 in the former Mechanics Institute. It has run as a cinema since then, so it is a great survivor. Now run by a volunteer body for over 30 years, it continues to show the latest releases plus National Theatre and other event cinema
