In 2024 the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) Celebrated its 200th Anniversary. RNLI Flamborough, will be hosting an illustrated talk at Flamborough Library, giving an overview of the history of Lifeboats at Flamborough

An illustrated talk will be given in Flamborough Library by the station’s Lifeboat LOM. Dave, supported by the Secretary to the RNLI Flamborough Supporter’s Group, will give an overview of the history of Lifeboats at Flamborough and why the RNLI is at the heart of the village and is firmly rooted in the community.

At RNLI Flamborough, we are proud that our LOM is the Great Great Nephew of Henry Freeman – the sole survivor of the Whitby Lifeboat Disaster of 1861, by virtue of the fact he was wearing a very new invention, a lifejacket made of cork. Dave was recently asked to share his ancestor’s story as a part of the RNLI 200 Voices podcasts, which can be found at the bottom of this page in the Online channels.
Location: RNLI Flamborough Boathouse – South Sea Rd, Flamborough YO15 1AE, with a chance to look around the boat and ask questions.

Saturday 12th of September at 10.30 - 11.30 an illustrated talk by RNLI Flamborough, at Flamborough Library booking is essential.
