The Flying Horse Hotel, 37 Packer Street, Rochdale, Greater Manchester, OL16 1NJ
This tour will take in the architecture which surrounds the Town Hall Square: Town Hall, Broadfield Park Slopes, Packer Street and Rochdale Bridge.
A jam-packed tour telling the historical story of Rochdale Town Square’s architecture, informed by what we have learnt over 5 years of archaeological digs and research through heritage projects. From the Medieval period through to the industrial revolution into what it is today, the tour will take you on a journey through time to understand more about the heritage architecture that makes up the town square of Rochdale. The archaeologist will guide you through time and location, highlighting significant architectural and historical locations within the square, including the recently restored Town Hall, the working-class history of Packer Street and the Medieval core of Rochdale itself. This tour aims to tell the tale of Rochdale’s town square through both its bold and more hidden architecture. We invite you to join us and learn about Rochdale’s heritage and see how the story of the Town Centre has developed over time.
