Roker Pier and Lighthouse
Roker Pier and Lighthouse, Marine Walk, Roker, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, SR6 0PL
Roker Pier and Lighthouse volunteers will be opening the glass entrance building to the tunnel under the pier and the ground floor of the Lighthouse to visitors for this event. Come and glimpse the dark and atmospheric tunnel and admire the inside of the lighthouse which are never open to the public apart from during tours. Talk to the tour guides, find out about the tours and how to book them, and if you are interested how to join us in becoming a volunteer. If the weather is bad and the pier is closed, we will still open the tunnel entrance at the shore end of the pier. There may be a short wait to get into the tunnel or lighthouse as space is limited and only a certain number of people can be inside at one time.

The entrance to the tunnel under Roker Pier is inside the glass structure at the shore end of the pier but unfortunately is at the bottom of the original steps which are short and steep. Roker Lighthouse is situated at the end of Roker Pier, and unfortunately the lighthouse itself has restricted access as there is a short narrow flight of steps leading to the end of the pier, then further steps to get into the lighthouse. The pier itself is accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs/prams, it is only the lighthouse that is not. Disabled parking and accessible toilets are available nearby.
There is public parking, toilets and coffee shops/restaurants near to the entrance of the pier
