Royal Navy Submarines and Submariners in WWII
Hornet Sevices Sailing Club, Haslar Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 2AQ
The little-known story of RN submarines operating from Malta in the Mediterranean, which did much to hobble Rommel’s desert operations by interrupting his supply lines, is told through the experiences of an able seaman and a senior captain.
Chris Munns, himself a submariner of 20 years’ experience and once Director of the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, tells this story of humour and tragedy. Of the submarines that served in the Mediterranean, half were lost and, of course, their crews with them.
The talk will last for about 40 minutes, with time for questions at the end.
