Saint Leonard’s On Sea Congregational Church

St Leonards-on-Sea Congregational Church, prominently situated at the junction of London Road and Pevensey Road, is one of the finest Victorian Nonconformist buildings in Sussex. Founded in 1863 by local philanthropist James Griffin and designed in the Gothic Revival style by Edward Habershon, the church opened in 1864 and quickly became a landmark in the growing seaside town. Built from local sandstone and originally crowned by a striking copper spire, the Grade II listed building served its congregation for almost 140 years before closing for worship in 2002. Following extensive restoration, this remarkable architectural treasure has been given a new lease of life as a community, events and heritage venue, preserving an important part of St Leonards’ social and cultural history.

There is a Saturday market on every Saturday so certainly for the two Saturdays Heritage open days. There is a bar and café serving a range of hot food. Food There will be a Piano performance on both Saturdays at 12 pm on the grand Piano in the main Church hall, the pianist Barnaby Green, the grandson of the original owners of the Piano.
