Sandwich Medieval Centre
The Quay, Sandwich, Kent, CT13 9EN
Join us this year for an exciting experiment with iron, we will be looking at how medieval blacksmiths made iron from oar. We will attempt to build a small furnace and produce our own bloom of iron.
We will also be looking at the tradition of timber framing, come and see how this amazing skill is being kept alive with master framers as they show the techniques used in new structures and repairs to original buildings.
The medieval centre will be offering visitors a range of medieval table games like Three Men’s Morris, Fox and Geese, Alquerque and Seega on our hand carved games tables.
We will also have many other reenactors in the centre displaying and demonstrating a range of medieval crafts like blacksmithing, baking, calligraphy and illumination, block printing, silk work and you can even visit the barber surgeon, plus you can have a go at striking your own coin. Step onboard the Nicholas, our replica medieval trading ships and and learn about the goods they were bringing in to the town.
