Sandygate and Carsick - Social history and world sporting heritage
Sandygate Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S10 5SE
The event will be a tour of the streets around the Sandygate and Carsick area of Sheffield. We will be spotting and understanding evidence of the past, both large and small, and telling stories of the area from times gone by. Following on from my popular 'Lodge Moor Explore' Heritage Open Days event we will again be tracing part of the route of the 1830s Sheffield Water Works Company conduit, which was built to carry the town's drinking water all the way from Redmires to Crookesmoor.
In addition I'm delighted that there will be an exciting opportunity to have a guided look around Hallam Football Club's Sandygate Ground - the club's home since 1860. Sandygate has also been a cricket ground since 1804, and is now recognised as the oldest surviving football stadium in the world! Visitors are welcome to join us to attend the football ground visit separately to the main tour - or to join for the whole combined event.

The tour will be mainly on the pavement, with a section along a footpath. At the end of the tour there will be refreshments available, and bathroom access, at the football ground.
The start and finish point is on the 51 bus route, and there is some street and limited off-road parking availability. Visitors should prepare for any weather for the time of year.
