• Why are all our laws written on vellum? • How do you cut a quill? • What’s the difference between parchment and vellum? • What are marginalia? • Why were some pigments more precious than gold? • What’s a rubric?

Jo Simister will share experience gained at illumination workshops with renowned calligrapher Patricia Lovett MBE and at St Albans Abbey. She will talk through the processes of preparation and execution, in the past and in modern examples, before looking at what we can learn from mediaeval documents and illuminated manuscripts from the Midlands.
