Join us to celebrate 20 years of Shaw House being open to the public! Shaw House will be FREE of charge to visit on the Heritage Open Days. Explore the newly dressed historical rooms, our ‘Dressed for Shaw’ costume exhibition, and the newly developed gardens. The English Civil War arms and armoury exhibition ‘Dressed for Battle’ will be open. Our younger visitors can enjoy crafts in our Activity Room and playing outside in our playpark, NEW for 2026.
Areas of the House that are not usually accessible will be open including the ‘forbidden corridor’ on the second floor and the basement tunnel. During the day there will be introductory talks available in the Great Hall which will provide the perfect start to your visit.
Visitors can also pre-book to visit to the Elizabethan bake house which was discovered during restoration and is one of the very special features of Shaw House.
Spaces to the bake house are limited and the times are: 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm (30 minute), free, booking is essential.
Please visit: www.westberkshireheritage.org/whats-on to book.
Access is via a descending fixed ladder which has a handrail on both sides and individuals must be physically capable of completing this manoeuvre as there is no alternative entry/exit.
There is no need to book for the introductory talks or to explore the rest of the House and exhibitions.
The café will be open and alternative areas for seating will be provided.
