A unique 90-minute guided walk around Sheffield City Centre, as we explore the remarkable history of Sheffield's growth as the CRUCIBLE for the modern game of football. From 1857 to 1875 over 200 football teams emerged playing to 'Sheffield Rules'.

Sheffield boasts many World footballing UNIQUES for the modern game including FIRST football club; FIRST published Rules of Football; FIRST knockout tournament; FIRST team from an Industrial Works; FIRST Intercity Football Game; FIRST Football Game played under electric floodlights; ORGINATORS of the fixed Crossbar, the Corner Flag, the Pitch dimensions; ARCHITECTS (and SAVIOURS) of the moderns game like Nathaniel Creswick; John C Shaw, William Chesterman; Harry W Chambers; and John C Clegg ; PIONEERING players like Jack Hunter and Billy Mosforth; and the genesis of WOMEN'S FOOTBALL in Sheffield.

The walk is around 90-minutes and throughout you will have the opportunity to ask questions and get as much out of the walk as time allows. The walk is mainly flat through the Cathedral, Fargate and Tudor Square area, with a moderate incline at the beginning up to the Cathedral area. Toilet stops with accessible toilets are en-route if needed and at the end of the walk there will be refreshments available in local establishments.

Directions:
Starting on West Bar at the site of the Surrey Theatre, owned by Thomas Youdan who was the instigator of the Youdan Football Cup (Guinness Book of Records recognised World’s first ever knockout football tournament). We then take a stroll through Campo Lane, East Parade, Norfolk Row, Tudor Square, Surrey Street, Howard Street, and Arundell Street. Finishing at Butcher Works on Arundell Street.
