Sheffield's Central Library: A History

The Grade II Listed Sheffield Central Library which also houses the Library, Theatre and Graves Art Gallery, was opened in 1934 by the Duchess of York (The Queen Mother). It retains many original features and has been in continual public use for its 91 years.
Come and explore some of our archive material relating to the building and its people, and celebrate this wonderful building.
There will be opportunities to explore the building itself and to find out more about the work of Sheffield Archives and Local Studies Library.

Drop in event - Sheffield Local Studies Library, this is on the 1st floor of the Central Library and accessible by wheelchair using the lift which you can access at the back door of the Library on Arundel Gate. Tours (self guided and led (TBC) - Will include stairs, however all information relating to the tour will be available in the Local Studies Library. Accessible toilets are on the ground floor near the lift.
