Celebrate 30 years of The Golden Hinde in Bankside with this hands-on family session featuring a short shipyard tour and creative workshop inspired by the everyday lives of shipwrights past and present.

Shipyard Stories: Make & Create on The Golden Hinde
Saturday 12 September 10am-12pm

Celebrate the craft and creativity behind The Golden Hinde with this family-friendly shipyard experience, inspired by the 2026 Heritage Open Days theme Everyday Histories.

This special session also forms part of our 30th anniversary celebrations marking the arrival of The Golden Hinde into St Mary Overie Dock in September 1996, where she has remained a much-loved part of Bankside for three decades.

Begin with a taster of our Shipyard Tour, where you’ll step into our working shipyard and discover how traditional skills and hands-on craftsmanship continue to shape the ship you see today.

Then head into the atmospheric Hold for a hands-on creative workshop. Families will design and make their own ship-inspired piece - from figureheads to symbolic designs that tell a story.

This relaxed session shines a light on the everyday work of shipwrights - past and present - and invites younger visitors to imagine their own role in the ship’s continuing story.

Perfect for families with children aged 6+, with activities designed to spark creativity, curiosity, and storytelling.

Please note:

- Children must remain within sight of their accompanying adult
- Sessions run on a staggered entry basis: 10am or 11am
- You’ll have access to the rest of the ship before or after your session

Free to attend, but booking is essential.
