Step into the colourful world of North Staffordshire’s travelling showpeople and discover the families who bring the excitement of the fair to towns and villages across the region. Through fascinating stories, photographs and memories, plus a film show and talk (2pm on 17th August), explore the lives, traditions and remarkable history of the people behind the rides, shows and attractions. As part of Heritage Open Days’ Everyday Heritage theme, this event celebrates the generations of local showpeople whose hard work, resilience and community spirit create cherished memories for countless visitors.

Celebrate World Funfair month with us at the Philip Astley Centre - and while you’re here, find out a bit more about the local man who went on to become the father of the modern circus!
