Tours of Smithills Hall including the room where protestant preacher George Marsh was questioned before being sent to trial.

We are offering free guided tours of Smithills Hall as part of Heritage Open Festival. These tours are usually chargeable. We are also giving access for people to view the room where George Marsh was questioned and interrogated before being dragged out to be put on trial in Chester. The George Marsh room is usually closed to the public.

There is parking directly outside the Hall and we also have an overflow car park. The nearest bus stop is just a 2 minute walk to the Hall.

Accessibility details

Most of the tour will be on ground level, however please be advised the George Marsh is upstairs with no lift access. Another room on the tour is also upstairs with no lift access. Photos are available of both rooms.

We do have a tearoom on site. Please be advised to book directly with Bake and Roast on their website to avoid disappointment https://bakeandroast.com/ We also have lovely gardens and grounds that visitors can walkaround.
