St Albans South Signal Box
St Albans South Signal Box, Ridgemont Road, St Albans, Hertfordshire, AL1 3AJ
The signal box opened in 1892, closed in 1979 and opened again to visitors in 2009. The box has a very large garden containing signals to operate from the lever frames, platform bells to ring, points to change and an opportunity to see Thomas The Tank Engine along with friends on the garden railway. There will be displays of model railway engines and the full cast from Thomas the Tank Engine on an 00 gauge layout. The museum on the ground level of the box contains many historic artifacts along with signs, lamps, bells and much more. Step back in time to 1979 when you visit the signalman controlling the trains from the upper level of the box. Light refreshments available on the lawn.
