St Edmund's Church Roundhay Leeds - Explore our Architecture Open Day
Lidgett Park Road, Roundhay, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS8 1JN
I wonder if you have been inside St Edmund’s Roundhay? Why not spend your Saturday taking a tour around the church looking at the architecture and enjoying refreshments and stalls ?
St Edmund's dates from 1907 and is a grade II listed building in Roundhay conservation area. It was consecrated in 1909. Seeing a need for a local place for worship three residents sought to provide an Anglican church to support the growing community. Mr W Carby Hall was chosen as the architect. The church was planned on a grand scale with rich furnishings and stained glass. It has a wider than usual nave with comparatively narrow aisles. All the seats are in the nave affording optimum sight-lines for the congregation. It is of an unusual construction being of reinforced concrete with a stone facing exterior. We are the home to rich heritage treasures including the local war memorial and a fine Binns organ.
We are offering guided tours by trained people who will let you into the insights of our interesting building. Children very welcome, we will have activities for them.
