St. Georges Church, St. Georges Street, Chorley, Lancashire, PR7 2AA
The Church, consecrated in 1825, is noteworthy as an early example of a large Waterloo Church, for the hammer-beam roof by Rickman, Stephen Adam's internal west window and a local version of Thorvaldson's Angel Font, both dating to 1891.
Given this year marks the centenary of Blackburn Diocese, a key talk will be, "How Did We End Up With Blackburn?", at 11.00 on Friday 11th by Dr. Bill Walker. Responding to the HODs' national theme, David Horsfield, at 11.00 on the 12th, will present a light but informative talk on, "The Everyday History of St George's Since 1949".
Exhibitions, tailored guided tours of the church and the children's quiz, will all be available throughout.
The bell tower will be open and visitors can learn about the unique history of our Ellacombe Chimes, have the opportunity to play them and receive a certificate.
On Saturday 12th September, at 1230, organist Gordon Blackledge will be performing a musical extravaganza.
Free light refreshments are provided.
