Explore the history of St George’s, uncovering stories of the local community. Many were connected to this church through weddings, baptisms and life events. Apprentices from the railway works made many of the fixtures and fittings of the church.

St George’s was built in 1843 as the District Church of St George the Martyr, Wolverton Station. The church was built to provide a place of worship for the inhabitants of the new company town and was paid for by the railway company, with the help of the Radcliffe Trust. It is the world’s first railway town church. We will be uncovering the stories of people who worked on this church and made many of the fixtures and fittings such as the pews, lectern, and who painted the organ, and also celebrating those who had their wedding, baptism and other significant life events here. Discover the intriguing lives of this community.
