St George's Church, Poynton

Church, and bell tower, open! Come and explore the history of Poynton's parish church. Silver and textiles on display. Activity sheets for children.

Nikolaus Pevsner in 'Buildings of England' (1971) describes the interior of St George's as 'dull'! We would like to disagree!

And so we are opening the building as part of the national Heritage Open Days this September.

On Saturday 13th September from 1000 until 1500 we are inviting Poynton residents, and visitors from further afield to ‘come and explore…’.

Members of our bell-ringing team will be conducting tours of the tower (limited capacity).

The church was gifted a Communion set by the Vernon family in 1806, which will be on display (usually only used at Christmas and Easter).

Also, not normally on display is a copy of the 'Book of Homilies'.
