St Giles's Church, Bielby

St Giles's, Bielby, is a small church standing in the heart of the village. Its architectural features range from Norman beakheads to Georgian box pews. Particularly notable is its north wall. It is an infilled C13 arcade revealing that a north aisle has been removed and that the church once extended further west. This amazing stonework was revealed when the church underwent renovation some twenty years ago. Previously it was completely covered in cement rendering since Victorian times.
The church has two bells. One dates from the C14 and is thought to be one of the oldest in Yorkshire. The other dates from 1638.
On our open day, visitors can take a self-guided tour. They can also take a break with a tea, coffee or juice and browse a newspaper or two while live background music is played on the lute and tenor recorder.
Everything is free, but donations to help our church will be gratefully received.

There is a single step at the church gate. It is possible for wheelchairs to manage this. The path from there to the door has a slight slope but is fairly short.
