St Joseph's House - 96 London Road

Dating from 1825, this lovely house was originally built as part of two houses, a shop, stables and a coach house. When built this and Buckenham Terrace to the south were the first buildings to be erected on this side of London Road, south of Valingers Road. For a long time this was the doctors surgery. Dr Smith and later Dr Wigdahl lived next door at the Old Doctors House at number 97.

The building was restored as a private residence in 2021 and retained many original features including the staircase. Now home to the religious Sisters of Our Lady of the Annunciation Church.
