St Lawrence’s Church Broughton Open Days
St Lawrence's Church, London Road, Broughton Village, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK10 9AA
The Church was built in the 13th Century and remodelled in the 19th Century. Four fifteenth century wall paintings include two – the doom and the warning to sabbath breakers with the mutilation of the body of Christ by profanity – are examples of rare concepts. St George, St Helena and St Eligius also feature. The paintings were covered with lime wash during the Reformation and rediscovered in 19th Century and have been restored three times since then. There are two chained books evidencing the validity of the Church that Henry VIII created which should be in every church. During the 19th Century seven stained glass windows were installed by leading makers including Gibbs and Kempe.
