St Martin's Church, Dorking

St Martin’s is one of the great churches of Surrey designed by one of the foremost of Victorian ecclesiastical architects, Henry Woodyer. Externally its 210ft spire, one of the tallest spires in England, is a feature of the landscape for miles around. The scale and beauty of the building can be appreciated from within. Internally it is a treasure trove of beautiful, decorative elements ranging from its pulpit to the stained glass and opus sectile. Heritage Open Days 2026 celebrates the influence of people, particularly skilful people. At St Martin's a leaflet created for this year's festival takes visitors on a self-guided tour that highlights significant people who have left their mark on the church and the community. There will also be an opportunity to visit the bell tower between 10.00 and 12.00 and talk to the bellringers. A special competition for adults and children will test your powers of observation and deduction. Guided tours of the church will explore some of the people who have left their mark on the church.

Accessibility details

There are two steps up into the Chancel but this does not prevent viewing almost all of the interior detail on the level. St Martin's Walk car park has disabled parking by the exit closest to the church; our own disabled parking is very limited so please arrange in advance. Hearing Loop available during services. Accessible toilets are in the adjacent Christian Centre. Visitors to the belltower should note that this a narrow staircase with a number of steep steps.
