St Mary's Church, Shalford: Talk on the life of Henry Haversham Godwin-Austen
St Mary's Church, Church Close, Shalford, Guildford, Surrey, GU4 8BP
Come along to St Mary's to listen to a talk on the life of Henry Haversham Godwin-Austen, famous explorer who discovered the "K2" mountain, originally called Mount Godwin-Austen. He broke the Asiatic high altitude summiting record three times, and on his return to Shalford, became one of the country's leading natural historians. He became a Darwinist collector and his collection of freshwater molluscs forms the basis of all modern science in the subject.
