St Mary’s, Speen, Newbury, is a Victorian era church with impressive internal furnishings, believed to occupy a site that has been a Christian place of worship since Saxon times.

Visitors will be able to:

- enjoy the quiet space offered by this magnificent country church and admire its treasures, which include a rare Canova marble monument and a 16th century monument to a Gentleman of the Privy Chamber at the court of Elizabeth I;
- enjoy a cream tea from the church's kitchen or picnic in the church grounds;
- learn about the history of Speen;
- see the results of the work being carried out by the Berkshire Church Recording organisation detailing the historically and artistically interesting contents of the church building;
- dress up and take a selfie as a vicar;
- view a display of wedding dresses; and
- take part in a Scavenger Hunt in the beautiful church grounds.

Also worth a visit is the adjacent Ladywell, situated in a secluded, wooded spot near the church grounds. Given its proximity to the Roman road, Ermin Street (now a section of the A4), it is believed the Ladywell could date back to Roman times.

St Mary’s, Speen is also a great starting point for exploring the Kennet Valley and the Lambourn Valley Way. We will be especially pleased to welcome those taking part in this year's "Ride and Stride" event.
