St Mary's Church Walkley

St Mary’s church is joining Sheffield Buddhist Centre, Walkley Community Centre, Walkley Ebenezer and Walkley Library in this one day event to celebrate the history of Walkley, its buildings and its people. This Mid Victorian church is renowned for its mixture of 19th & 21st Century stained glass.
There will be a number of exhibitions, photographs and maps including archive material about the former St Mary’s School – later the Walkley Institute & part of Sheffield College- and the current use of the school building as the Sheffield Spiritualist Church & Sheffield Yoga School.
Additional displays will include:
Walkley Historians’ research on the History of Walkley’s Cemeteries; Walkley Ebenezer Primitive Methodist Church and its Historical Connections with the Walkley Community.'
Ancient and modern stained glass in St Mary’s and a guide to stained glass techniques. There will be photographs of the installation of Mark Angus’s stained glass window in 2019 celebrating St Mary’s 150th anniversary, alongside demonstrations of stained glass working techniques.
It is planned to open the ringing chamber of the bell tower and the organ loft from 10.00 to 13.00. Information on bell-ringing will be available.
