Discover this peculiar and picturesque church set in the chalkland of Cranborne Chase. Pevsner described St Mary’s as ‘… a Georgian space in Perpendicular form, long, uniform, well-lit – it might be a schoolroom.’

St Mary's combines a late medieval tower with a nave, transept and apse built in stages between 1852 and 1875. The church was vested, after some years of redundancy, with The Friends of Friendless Churches in 2011. The tower is 15th century and the remainder is 1852, credited to P.C. Hardwick with two transepts also recently credited to Macvicar Anderson. The idiosyncratic interior has been compared to a Georgian ballroom. Come and visit the church to see a special display on everyday life in Long Crichel!
