St Mary's Tadcaster Bellringing Open Day

St Mary's Church, Kirkgate, Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, LS24 9BL

  • 20 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

The Ringers at St Mary's Tadcaster will be holding a bell tower open day. Everyone is welcome to come up the bell tower, see the bells in action and have a go.

British churches have had bells as far back as the 6th century, however the modern & characteristic set up seen predominantly in UK bell towers only started as recently as the late 1500s. Tadcaster has had bells since 1760 and the current set of ringers invite everyone to come up the tower and see how the characteristically British pastime of change ringing works in practice. Visitors will be able to see how the bells are hung and hopefully have a go.

Everyone is welcome to join whether you are 5 or 105 or completely new to an experienced ringer as we look to grow our group and this open day hopefully will give an insight into one of our oldest pastimes.
