St Michael & All Angels Church, Macclesfield

You have to hunt to discover evidence of the mediaeval church of All Saints (now St Michael’s), but there is some to be found. The Savage Chapel dates from 1504 and holds a fine collection of alabaster memorials. The main part of our building, and its amazing stained glass windows, were funded by wealth from the silk industry in the early 20th century.
There will be an opportunity to see our rarely-seen heritage textiles: work from the Leek Embroidery School and banners (some made of silk) which were carried in town parades, including on Flower Sundays.
Our tower holds the only peal of 12 bells in Cheshire, apart from the Cathedral, and our bellringers will be around to demonstrate the ancient art of ringing.
Bring Teddy if he/she is up for an exciting zip-wire ride from the tower (we will be asking Teddy for a small charge for this).
We have trail leaflets, and an audio trail, and there will be friendly folk around to help. Our café (AngelatMyTable) will be open selling hot drinks, cakes and light meals from 10am – 3pm.

Church open 10am – 4pm. No charge, but we welcome donations towards our maintenance costs.
