St Michaels on Wyre Parish Church
St Michael's on Wyre Church, Blackpool Road, St Michaels on Wyre, Preston, Lancashire, PR3 0UA
One of only two Grade 1 listed buildings in the Borough of Wyre, parts of the church date from the 13th century, with additions of the Butler Chapel in the 15th century and the Tower in the 16th century.
The church will be open to visitors on both days when you can wander around at your leisure, and enjoy tea, coffee and cake (no charge but donations for repairs to the bells and clock would be much appreciated). We hope to be able to offer short guided tours pointing out the main features of the church and giving details of some of the history of the church.
The bells are a feature of the church, one of them being a French bell dating from 1458 which is thought to be one of the oldest church bells still in use in England. Although the bell tower isn't accessible for safety reasons, we will have a video of the tower interior and bells.
Why not combine a riverside walk along the lovely stretch of the Wyre near the church, and call in for a look at the church and a brew and some cake. Dogs are welcome.
