St Pauls Wordsworth Avenue
Wordsworth Avenue, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S5 9JH
St Paul's Church is a Grade II* listed building in the heart of Parson Cross in North Sheffield, designed by Sir Basil Spence. Built in 1959 - 10 years after the temporary Church Hall was built in 1949, which is still in use today - the Church is a stunning example of Sir Basil's architecture.
The Church will be open from 10am-3pm on Saturday 20th September, with drinks and cakes served in our hall throughout the day. Members from the Church will be on hand to show people around the building and share what we know about its design. Dr Louise Hampson will share a 15-20 minute talk at 11am and 1pm about Sir Basil Spence, the architecture of the building and its design links with Coventry Cathedral.
We will also have leaflets about St Paul's available for people to read, alongside a book on Basil Spence and Beryl Dean for people to look and glance through during the day. We also have a 3D model of St Paul's available for people to look at which was created for students from the Architecture Department at the University of Sheffield as part of their Live Projects in October and November 2024.
