St Peter's Church, Offord Darcy, St Neots
St Peter's Church, High Street, Offord Darcy, St Neots, Cambridgeshire, PE19 5RH
St Peter's Church, with its Norman arches to the north aisle dating from around 1130, shows the four styles of English church architecture. Extensive research on all styles of architecture to be found in the church has been carried out, and this is displayed at every focal point, together with more detailed information.
For example, the south aisle has graceful Gothic arches and there is a double piscina in the chancel and an angle piscina with sedilia in the south aisle. There is much to see in here, including a mystery stone effigy, memorial brasses, a family alabaster monument, carved corbel faces and a possibly unique William Glasby stained glass window with memorial plaques below, which together form the Offord Darcy war memorial.
Other interesting activities: Trace the descendants of our Medieval Knight. Consider the effects of the 16th Century Reformation on the Rectors of St Peters and their Patrons. Find out about the mystery of the stone Effigies. Admire the memorial to, and learn the history of, the first inhabitants of the Offord Darcy Manor House.
There will be research displayed on historical rural life in the Offords. Where were the farms and who were the owners? How big were the farms and what type were they? How many farm workers were employed on each farm and what was their working day like? What was their pay? Where did they live in the village? Lots of interesting facts and history to discover.

The church is accessed by a flat grassy footpath across the churchyard, however, it can develop an uneven surface due to animal activity despite reinforcing mesh laid across it. There is a level access into the entrance porch from the churchyard, with a ramp down into the interior of the church. Parking is available nearby. No parking on the Manor House driveway or in the churchyard but less mobile visitors can be dropped off at the churchyard gates with the vehicle then parked near to the High Street driveway entrance.
Members of the Friends of St Peter's Church will be on hand to show visitors around.
