The grave right beside the North back door of St Peter's church - unnoticed by most visitors - will be discussed in this hour long illustrated talk revealing the life of Richard Thornton who lies there, next to the church.
Richard Thornton was a self made man who rose from very humble beginnings to a place of high regard within this community due to all he had achieved. Spoiler: he was the founding owner of the Sunderland Empire.
