The brainchild of Tom Wyles, it is a work produced in the spirit and style of the Bayeux tapestry. It commemorates the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066, which marked the end of the Viking era, and ultimately changed the course of our country’s history, culture and language. Harold defeated the vikings at Stamford Bridge and then marched to Hastings Where are you? he was defeated by William of Normandy.
The Tapestry is housed in Platform 66, the Old Station, Church Road, Stamford Bridge, YO41 1DG. It is open for tea/coffee and biscuits most Tuesdays from 10am until 2pm. If you are interested in visiting as a private group, we can offer a Wednesday during the daytime with coffee and cake and a speaker for £7 a head.
