Markfield Beam Engine Museum tells a fascinating public health story.
Featuring a working Victorian steam engine this family friendly museum is a great way to inspire young engineers! We have free kids activities and guided tours. We will be offering tours of the wider site exploring the surprising features of Markfield Park including former settlement tanks and filter beds.
Our beautiful 1888 beam engine was part of a sewage treatment works that saved thousands of lives in Tottenham. Our museum celebrates the development of sanitation, an important but often overlooked part of history. The engine itself is a masterpiece of Victorian engineering that is still fully functional today.

- We're located in Markfield Park next to the cafe. Nearest Stations: South Tottenham | Overground | 10 mins walk Seven Sisters | Overground & Victoria Line | 15 mins walk Tottenham Hale | Overground & Victoria Line | 20 mins walk - along the River Lee Buses: The 318 stops within 5 minutes’ walk of Markfield Beam Engine & Museum on Grovelands Road and goes to South Tottenham and Seven Sisters stations. There are many other buses that serve Tottenham. By Foot or Bicycle The museum is located on the Lee Towpath between Stonebridge Lock and Springfield Marina. This is a traffic free public footpath and cycle path. There is very limited car parking in Markfield Park - access via Markfield Road only (for Sat Nav enter the post code N15 4QF, note limited head room). There is no access by road or parking on Sunday 14 September due to Markfield Road Festival.

Accessibility details
There is no parking or road access on Saturday 14 September due to local road closures. We have no toilets of our own at the museum, there a public toilets in the park. There is a separate cafe in the park along with a playground.
