Stelling Minnis Windmill

Join us at Stelling Minnis Windmill on Sunday 13 September 2026 where you'll be able to;

• Tour the mill & Engine room (from 25 to 30 minutes) – (Donation box available).
• Explore the Museum building full of original photographs, artifacts, models & millers records.

The Davison's Smock mill is a Grade I listed windmill and was built in 1866 by Holman Brothers in Canterbury. It was purchased by Henry Davison in 1878, whose family ran the mill spanning 94 years until Alec Davison died in 1970 and was the last working mill in Kent. The windmill was then 'gifted' to Kent County Council 1976, who agreed to maintain the mill with running costs as they do now. The mill has been open to the public for over 50 years.

The windmill Trustees, Guides and Volunteers have been working in the mill for many years. The mill manager and his team of volunteers have good practical skills and have undertaken day to day repair work and painting to the mill when necessary. The mill has been fully restored and can occasionally grind flour for bread making. The separate Museum close to the mill is also a very popular attraction for visitors and is also where the tea-room is located with outside marquee cover. Good car parking is available at the mill.

The Davison's mill is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and surrounded by privately owned common land which is used as grazing for sheep and cattle but there are also many foot paths for villagers and walkers. The mill serves significant importance to Stelling Minnis village life, and you will receive a warm welcome from the windmill guides and volunteers when you visit. Our mill is open every Sunday and Bank holidays from 1400 until 1700 from Easter to end of September.
