Step Behind the Scenes at Blackfriars

A quintessential part of Boston’s history, Blackfriars Theatre & Arts Centre is based in ‘The Dominican Friary’, Built in 1222 by the Dominicans or Black Friars. It was converted into a theatre in 1966 and today, hosts a varied program of local amateur and professional stage productions.

Take a guided backstage tour at, explore our brand-new look foyer, and hear stories from our eclectic past – from an 800-year-old refectory to cosy old cottages and a 1960s theatre. After your tour, enjoy a cuppa and a slice of cake from our foyer café bar.
